LPRA advocates "Listen before Transmit" intelligent wireless nodes; warns on power-line transmission:

Dearborn, Mi, April 5th, 2004

"The next generation of SRD's and wireless devices will require enough intelligence to listen before transmit, and switch to a different frequency if the channel is already in use", according to Mr. Tim Cummins, CEO of Cratlon LTD, in his opening remarks as an invited panel speaker representing the Low-Power-Radio-Association at the IWPC wireless workshop in Dearborn this week.

The LPRA is additionally warning that Power-Line-Transmission technologies represent a looming risk to the large installed base of wireless monitoring and control equipment, as well as to radio amateurs, cable modems, and many other services. "Significant problems and losses of service have been experienced in some cases around Europe already", he commented.

The wireless workshop is organised by IWPC (www.iwpc.org) which works to bring together all companies in the wireless supply chain to mutually benefit each other by discussing and understanding these issues and accelerating market deployment of their products. Speakers included the Chairman of the Zigbee Alliance and senior executives from across the industry.
